Heinze joins Arteta’s Arsenal coaching team
Arsenal have confirmed the appointment of Gabriel Heinze as the new first-team coach under Mikel Arteta.
The former Manchester United and Argentina defender takes over from Carlos Cuesta, who recently left to become the head coach of Parma.
Heinze, aged 47, brings experience from both his playing and coaching career.
His most recent role was as head coach of Newell’s Old Boys, one of the most well-known clubs in Argentina.
Before returning to South America, Heinze managed MLS side Atlanta United, although his time there ended without much success.
He also held head coach roles at Velez Sarsfield, Argentinos Juniors, and Godoy Cruz in his homeland.
Arsenal believe his wide experience and leadership qualities will add value to the current coaching set-up.
In a statement released by the club, Arsenal said:
“We are excited with the introduction of Gabriel to our men’s first-team coaching staff, and welcome him and his family to Arsenal.”
Experienced Argentine defender joins the Gunners
Gabriel Heinze was born in Crespo, a small town in the north-east of Argentina.
He began his football journey there and rose to become one of the most recognised players of his generation.
Heinze played as a defender and enjoyed a long professional career, turning out for some of Europe’s top clubs.
During his time in England, he spent three years at Manchester United, where he won the Premier League in the 2006-07 season.
He also featured for other major teams including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Marseille.
In international football, Heinze earned 72 caps for Argentina and represented the national team at major tournaments.
His leadership as a player, along with the coaching experience he has built in recent years, is expected to help Arsenal as they prepare for the new season.
Heinze’s arrival continues Arsenal’s effort to strengthen their technical team following recent changes behind the scenes.
He is expected to begin work with the squad immediately ahead of their summer fixtures.
