Arsenal have ‘discussed’ to sign Ademola Lookman

By on July 9, 2025

Arsenal have reportedly ‘discussed’ the possibility of signing Atalanta star Ademola Lookman, as per The Athletic.

The Gunners are said to be planning to revamp the frontline this summer and are edging closer to purchasing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP to reinforce the centre-forward position.

Moreover, Mikel Arteta wants a new right winger to support Bukayo Saka and Chelsea forward Noni Madueke is reportedly the Spanish boss’ primary target. The North London club have already agreed on personal terms with him and are set to open talks with the Blues to seal the deal.

Arsenal also want to upgrade the left flank and have been linked with Rodrygo Goes, Anthony Gordon, and Eberechi Eze. However, it has been suggested that in addition to the frontline, the Gunners could also go for a new No.10 and Eze is viewed as an option to play in this position rather than out wide.

Now, The Athletic report that Arsenal have ‘discussed’ the possibility of signing Lookman, but any move is looking unlikely at the moment as they don’t want to match Atalanta’s valuation.

La Dea are a tough negotiator and usually slap huge price tags on their star men’s heads to fend off potential suitors. They want around £52m for the forward with his existing deal set to run until 2027.

Lookman to Arsenal

However, the player is keen on leaving to take the next step in his career and would be open to returning to the Premier League.

Lookman is a similar type of player to Eze as he usually plays in the second striker or left CAM role in a back-three system. He is also capable of providing cover on the left flank.

The Nigerian previously struggled in the Premier League during his time at Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City, but has been in excellent form at Gewiss Stadium in recent years.

After guiding Atalanta to win the Europa League in the 2023/24 campaign, the 27-year-old made 26 goal contributions in 40 appearances in all competitions last term.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see who Arsenal eventually opt to sign to strengthen the left flank in this transfer window.
