Arsenal ‘most interested’ in signing Real Madrid’s Rodrygo
Arsenal are reportedly the ‘most interested’ club in signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, as per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
After finishing second in the last three consecutive campaigns in the Premier League, the Gunners can’t afford to go another season without a major silverware.
If that were to happen, Mikel Arteta’s job would come under real threat. The Spanish boss has managed to make the North London club a title contender over the years, but has been struggling to take the final step.
So, Arsenal are looking to be ambitious in this window to strengthen the squad. They are planning to spend big this summer, and most of their budget appears to be allocated to upgrading the frontline.
Mundo Deportivo report that Arsenal are ‘most interested’ in Rodrygo and could make a concrete approach to secure his service over the coming days or weeks.
It was previously reported that Real Madrid want at least £77m for the South American, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. But the North London club are hoping to seal the deal for a fee of around £60m. So, Arteta’s side want a 22% discount on this deal.
Rodrygo to Arsenal
Having struggled to play regularly in recent months, Rodrygo is highly likely to leave this summer, and his future will become clear after the Club World Cup. The Spanish giants have reached the quarterfinals of this competition and will face off against Borussia Dortmund.
The Spanish outlet claim that the Brazilian’s potential departure hasn’t just attracted Arsenal’s attention, as Chelsea and Manchester City are also in this race, with Pep Guardiola liking the player very much. Therefore, Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition to purchase their key target.
Arsenal want a left winger, centre-forward, and a right-winger this summer. So, Rodrygo would be an option for the left flank, but is also comfortable on the opposite side.
The 24-year-old has struggled to break into Real Madrid’s starting XI in recent months, but it is due to fierce competition rather than his qualities. He has even proven his worth at the highest level over the years.
Therefore, he would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service before the start of next season.
