Arsenal ‘edging closer’ to signing Cristhian Mosquera

By on July 4, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly ‘edging closer’ to signing Valencia youngster Cristhian Mosquera, as per Caught Offside.

The Gunners already have a very strong centre-back department, which include Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, and Jakub Kiwior. The Frenchman and the Brazilian have been the best centre-back pairing of the Premier League in recent years, while the Polish operates as the backup to Gabriel.

Moreover, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, and Riccardo Calafiori can also be deployed in the centre-back position. But Mikel Arteta sees them as fullback options.

However, Saliba has entered the final two years of his current contract and has placed himself on the radar of Real Madrid after establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the world.

It is very hard to keep hold of a player when Los Blancos knock on his door. Liverpool experienced that and lost Trent Alexander-Arnold so Arteta is planning to buy Mosquera to add depth to the backline.

Caught Offside claim that Arsenal have already started working to purchase the Spaniard and saw their opening proposal of around £12m rejected by Los Ches as they want more to let him leave.

Mosquera to Arsenal

Mosquera has a contract until 2026 at Estadio Mestalla and they offered him a new deal to prolong his stay. But the player has turned it down as he has already agreed on personal terms with the North London club. Valencia offered him a salary package of around €3m-a-year but Arsenal’s proposal is significantly higher than that.

After seeing their opening bid rejected by Valencia, Arsenal are preparing to table an improved bid of around £17m-£21m plus performance-related bonuses worth around £2m-£4m. So, Arteta’s side are now ‘edging closer’ to signing the 21-year-old.

Mosquera, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and efficient in defensive contributions. So, he possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in a physical league like the Premier League.

Arteta previously showcased his qualities of developing young players, as Bukayo Saka, Saliba, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Magalhaes have all flourished under the Spaniard’s tutelage.

Therefore, Mosquera would be able to receive the same benefit should he eventually move to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.
