Arsenal plot swoop to sign Sevilla star Lucien Agoume
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume, as per The Athletic.
After ranking through French side, Sochaux’s youth system, the 23-year-old joined Inter Milan back in 2019. However, he never managed to secure his place in the Nerazzurri’s starting eleven, so he went out on loan to several clubs to play regularly and develop his career.
The Frenchman moved to Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuan on a loan deal in January last year before making the switch permanently last summer.
He played for the Andalusian side regularly last term, making four goal contributions in 35 La Liga appearances. Agoume even helped his side survive relegation.
Now, The Athletic report that Arsenal are planning to sign a new midfielder as Thomas Partey is set to leave for free this summer and have discussed a deal to purchase the Sevilla star.
The 23-year-old is valued at around £7m by Transfermarkt and has three years left in his current contract. So Arsenal might be able to get the deal done for a reasonable price should they make a move.
Agoume to Arsenal
Agoume, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is a holding midfielder by trait, but can also be deployed in the box-to-box role. He is dynamic, strong, technically sound, and efficient in defensive contributions. So, the Frenchman possesses the physicality to flourish in the Premier League.
Agoume is a talented player but doesn’t have much experience playing at the highest level. Therefore, he might not be able to make an impact in Arsenal’s starting eleven straightaway.
However, following Jorginho’s departure as a free agent, Arsenal are reportedly close to purchasing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. So, Agoume would be able to develop under the Spaniard’s tutelage should he move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure the former Inter Milan star to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.
Arsenal would be hoping to finalise the new signings quickly so that Arteta can work with them during pre-season to prepare properly before the next campaign.
