Arsenal to submit a formal bid to sign Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to submit a formal proposal to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres, as per Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã.
The Gunners are prioritising signing a new centre-forward, and it was reported earlier that Newcastle United star Alexander Isak was their primary target.
However, the Magpies have made it clear that they have no intention of letting him leave, having qualified for the Champions League next campaign.
Following that, Arsenal have reportedly identified Benjamin Sesko and Gyokeres as priority options to strengthen the frontline. It has even been suggested that the North London club have been working to sign either player simultaneously but will only go for one eventually.
Now, Correio da Manhã report that Arsenal have chosen to sign Gyokeres and are ready to submit a formal proposal to seal the deal.
The Swedish international’s potential departure from Jose Alvalade Stadium has been the biggest drama of this transfer window thus far. The player reportedly had an agreement with the Lions’ former sporting director, Hugo Viana, to leave for a fee of around £51m this summer.

But, Viana left Sporting and joined Manchester City, and the Portuguese giants’ president has refused to let him leave for that price and wants around £68m, which has annoyed the player.
The Portuguese outlet mention that Arteta wants Gyokeres before the start of pre-season, and they will travel to Singapore to prepare before the next campaign.
Arsenal currently have Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as the centre-forward options, but both picked up serious injury problems in mid-season. As a result, Arteta was left without a specialist striker for the second part of last term.
The Sporting star has been in stellar goal-scoring form in the last couple of seasons and made a staggering 67 goal contributions in all competitions last term.
He is quick, strong, efficient in linking up the play, possesses the poacher instinct inside the box, can create opportunities for fellow attackers, and also works hard without possession. However, he needs to sharpen up his aerial ability.
Gyokeres would be a great coup for the North London club should they eventually manage to secure his service in this transfer window.
