Arsenal step up interest in Ajax star Jorrel Hato
Arsenal have reportedly made contact with the representatives of Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, according to journalist Gianluigi Longari.
The Gunners have monitored the Dutch teenager for months and are now ready to make their move.
Hato, who plays primarily as a centre-back but can also fill in at left-back, is one of the most highly rated young defenders in Europe.
Arsenal are looking to strengthen all areas of their squad ahead of the new season.
After finishing second in the Premier League for three straight campaigns, the club is keen to take the next step.
Hato has been a standout player for Ajax and is attracting serious interest from top European sides.
Chelsea are also reportedly in the running, which has pushed Arsenal to act quickly.
What will Hato’s signing offer Arsenal?
The 19-year-old made 50 appearances for Ajax last season, scoring three goals and providing six assists.
He is known for his calmness on the ball, positional awareness, and ability to play out from the back.
Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta already has several defensive options at his disposal.
However, with the club aiming to compete on all fronts, depth and versatility are crucial. Kieran Tierney has already left, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior are tipped for moves.
Therefore, Arsenal could do with another defender who can play at centre-back and left-back, and Haro is a prime target.
Hato’s ability to play in different roles makes him an attractive addition. His style and background also draw comparisons with Jurrien Timber, another Dutch defender who joined Arsenal from Ajax.
Reports suggest that Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Hato for some time. The club now believes this summer is the right time to try to bring him in.
Hato is currently valued at £30 million by Transfermarkt. That fee is considered reasonable for a player with his experience and potential.
Talks with his agents are said to be ongoing. Arsenal are hoping to reach an agreement before other clubs can step in and hijack the deal.
Bringing in a young and talented defender like Hato would fit Arsenal’s strategy of blending youth with experience as they push for major trophies.
