Arsenal not ready to meet Sesko asking price

Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal are struggling to agree a deal to sign Benjamin Sesko as they are reluctant to match RB Leipzig’s asking price, as reported by journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Arsenal are still in the market for a new centre forward after last season’s struggles in front of goal.

Mikel Arteta’s side faced injury problems and poor form among their attacking players.

The Gunners want to improve their forward options ahead of the new season. They have identified Benjamin Sesko as one of their main targets.

Arteta is a strong admirer of the RB Leipzig forward, who had a good campaign in Germany.

The 21-year-old Slovenia international is viewed as a long-term option.

Sesko talks continue but fee is a major hurdle

Reports from Germany suggest that RB Leipzig are asking for a fee worth up to £86 million for Sesko.

That price is seen as too high by Arsenal. The Gunners are not ready to match Leipzig’s valuation at the moment.

Despite this, discussions are said to be ongoing between Arsenal and the player’s representatives.

There is still no full agreement on personal terms between both parties. However, the door is not yet closed on a deal.

While talks for Sesko continue, Arsenal are also looking at other options in case the deal does not go through.

Viktor Gyökeres is another name high on the list. The Swedish forward scored many goals for Sporting CP last season and is also liked by Arteta.

There is said to be a verbal agreement on a fee of around £51 to £60 million, but Sporting may still ask for more.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is also being watched by the north London side. He had a strong season and fits the type of striker Arteta wants.

The Gunners are expected to make a move for a striker before the start of the new season. For now, Sesko remains the top choice, but not at any price.

Arsenal are set to face Manchester United on the opening day of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
