Arsenal make contact to sign Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers
Arsenal have made initial contacts over a deal to sign Aston Villa ace Morgan Rogers, as per GiveMeSport.
Mikel Arteta took over the managerial role at the Emirates Stadium when they were in a dire situation. However, the Spanish boss has managed to rebuild the squad and has made them a title contender.
He has received plaudits for his work. But, although Arteta has helped the North London club become one of the strongest teams in England, they haven’t been able to win any major competition in recent years.
The Gunners boss must win the Premier League or the Champions League next season; otherwise, he will find himself under a lot of pressure.
The Premier League have released the fixture schedule for next season, and Arsenal will have to face a tough run of games in the first few weeks. Starting the season on a high is imperative to go all the way in the Premier League, and they would be hoping to do exactly that.
So, Arsenal are looking to be ambitious in the transfer market to hand Arteta the necessary tools to achieve success next season. They are reportedly close to signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, while Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have been heavily linked with a move for the centre-forward position.
Rogers to Arsenal
Now, GiveMeSport report that Arsenal are also planning to add creativity to their squad and have expressed a ‘genuine interest’ in Rogers, having been impressed by his performances last term.
Arteta’s side have even made an informal enquiry to learn whether Aston Villa are willing to part ways with the 22-year-old. Unai Emery’s side consider him a key player and don’t want to lose him unless they receive an unrefusable proposal. They might accept a bid worth up to £90m with his existing deal set to run until 2030.
The report say that Chelsea are also keen on signing Rogers and are prepared to make a move if they receive an indication that a deal can be struck this summer.
Rogers is a versatile forward as he is comfortable playing in the CAM and left wing roles; moreover, he can provide cover on the right flank. In 54 appearances in all competitions, the Englishman made 27 goal contributions last term.
He is one of the best young talents in the Premier League and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him this summer.
