Arsenal eye move for Newcastle star winger Gordon
Arsenal are reportedly showing interest in Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, according to a report by David Ornstein.
The Gunners have been linked with several wide forwards in recent weeks as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
With no major trophy since 2020, Mikel Arteta’s side are under pressure to improve their squad depth and quality in key areas.
A new winger is one of the areas they are looking to improve. The club had earlier been linked with Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.
However, the Spaniard is said to favour a move to Barcelona. As a result, Arsenal are now considering other names on their shortlist.
Anthony Gordon has emerged as a serious option and is viewed as a strong fit for Arteta’s style of play.
The 24-year-old played a key role for Newcastle United last season and remains one of their most important players.
He featured regularly for Eddie Howe’s side and helped them lift the Carabao Cup during a memorable campaign.
Gordon could bring quality and depth
Gordon finished the season with nine goals and seven assists in all competitions for the Magpies.
His value has increased, and according to Transfermarkt, the English winger is now worth around £56 million.
He would offer strong competition for Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard on the left side of Arsenal’s attack.
Gordon is known for his hard work and high energy. He never stops running and always gives his all for the team.
He is quick, direct, and always looking to attack. He can beat his marker one-on-one and delivers dangerous balls into the box.
Although he mostly plays on the left, he is comfortable in other positions across the front line.
He is also not afraid to cut inside and shoot, giving his team an extra goal threat when needed.
Arsenal see him as a player who could improve their squad right away and add more sharpness in wide areas.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle will be open to selling one of their best players this summer.
