Arsenal keen on move for Al-Nassr’s Aymeric Laporte
Arsenal are reportedly looking into a deal for Aymeric Laporte, according to Spanish outlet AS.
The 31-year-old defender is open to returning to Europe. Laporte currently plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. He joined the club in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of £25 million.
However, the Spanish defender is now exploring options to return to top-level European football. This development has drawn interest from several clubs.
Arsenal are among the clubs keen on the experienced centre-back. The Gunners are aiming to add more depth and experience to their defence this summer.
Mikel Arteta’s side had earlier tried to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth. But the young defender chose to join Real Madrid instead.
That move left Arsenal searching for other options in the transfer market. Laporte has now emerged as one of the top candidates on their list.
The Gunners have also been linked to other defenders like Jorrel Hato and Lille’s Alexsandro Ribeiro.
But Laporte stands out due to his Premier League experience.
Athletic Bilbao, Napoli and others also in the race
Laporte’s former club, Athletic Bilbao, are also strongly interested in bringing him back to Spain. The Basque side are keeping a close eye on the situation.
Other European clubs are monitoring him as well. Napoli, Aston Villa, Inter Milan and Marseille are all reported to be keen on signing him.
Al-Nassr are willing to sell the defender if they receive a suitable offer. The Saudi club want to recoup most of the fee they paid for him last year.
Laporte is left-footed and calm under pressure. He is known for his good reading of the game and ability to build up play from the back.
He suits a possession-based style, which fits well with the way Arsenal like to play.
His time at Manchester City gave him plenty of Premier League experience.
A move to the Emirates could benefit both the player and the club. Laporte would bring leadership and composure to Arsenal’s backline.
With several clubs now circling, Arsenal will have to act fast if they want to win the race for his signature.
