Arsenal want Johan Bakayoko as Saka backup option
Arsenal are said to be interested in PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko, according to reports from Eindhovens Dagblad.
The North London club are looking to bring in new attacking players ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Manager Mikel Arteta is keen to improve his options after a challenging campaign in front of goal.
Injuries and loss of form affected several key players, which left the team short of attacking spark at times.
That has led to the need for new additions in forward areas, with Bakayoko now appearing on their shortlist.
Bakayoko, who is 22 years old, is a full Belgian international and has enjoyed an impressive season with PSV.
He is widely seen as a natural right-winger, and reports claim he is being considered as a backup to Bukayo Saka.
Saka remains one of Arsenal’s most important players, but the club want someone reliable to rotate with him.
Bakayoko fits that need, especially as he brings quality and energy when moving forward with the ball.
Bakayoko Offers Pace
Bakayoko scored 12 goals and registered three assists across all competitions during the 2024/25 season.
He played a key role for PSV as they fought for trophies in the Dutch top flight and in Europe.
Known for his pace and sharp dribbling, Bakayoko is a constant threat when running at defenders.
He is very effective in one-on-one situations, where he uses close control and speed to go past his marker.
The Belgian is also good at cutting inside from wide positions to shoot or deliver clever passes into the box.
He is strong on counter-attacks due to his acceleration and quick decision-making in transition.
His crossing is another part of his game that adds value to any team looking to create chances from wide areas.
With only one year left on his contract, PSV are said to value him at around £17 million, as per the report.
That price tag may encourage Arsenal to act quickly, especially if interest grows from other clubs.
A move to the Premier League could be very appealing for Bakayoko at this stage of his career.
The Gunners are expected to continue monitoring the situation as they finalise their summer transfer plans.
