Arsenal lead race to sign Victor Gyökeres

Victor Gyökeres is reportedly prioritising a move to Arsenal ahead of Manchester United, as per reports from Fabrizio Romano.

The Swedish striker is one of the most talked-about forwards in Europe after his standout season with Sporting CP.

Arsenal are in the market for a proven goalscorer who can help push the team closer to major success next season.

Mikel Arteta’s side lacked a reliable centre forward last season, and it affected their chances in both the league and Europe.

Several forwards have been linked with a move to the Emirates, but Gyökeres is said to be one of the key names on the list.

Romano claims that Gyökeres’ ‘priority’ is to join Arsenal so it appears he’s ready to snub interest from Manchester United in favour of moving to the Gunners.

Arsenal still monitoring other striker targets

Arsenal are not only focused on Gyökeres, though, as they are also keeping close tabs on Benjamin Šeško of RB Leipzig.

The club are weighing up both options as they look to sign a new lead striker before the start of the season.

Arteta wants to improve his attacking line-up with a consistent finisher who can make the most of the team’s many chances.

Gyökeres fits that profile after scoring 54 goals and providing 13 assists for Sporting CP in all competitions last season.

His numbers have drawn the attention of top European clubs, but Arsenal appear to be leading the chase for his signature.

One issue may be that Sporting have reportedly increased their asking price to around £68m.
