Arsenal are reportedly ‘increasingly close’ to signing RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, as per Football Transfers.

Despite already having Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz as the options to deploy in the centre-forward position, the Gunners are prioritising signing a new striker this summer.

The Brazilian has continued to struggle with fitness problems since joining from Manchester City, while the German has failed to prove that he can help the North London club achieve their lofty ambitions.

Both strikers picked up serious injuries last term, and Arsenal had to play the entirety of the second half without a specialist striker. Mikel Arteta used Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino as auxiliary No.9s.

After being linked with several names, Arsenal have decided to push forward with a deal to sign Sesko. Football Transfers report that Arteta’s side have been in talks with Leipzig over this deal for a while, and the German side’s officials have even travelled to London several times to hold meetings.

Arsenal have made ‘significant progress’ regarding the transfer fee and structure of the agreement with Leipzig. So, Sesko is ‘increasingly close’ to moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Sesko to Arsenal

Arsenal are set to table a formal proposal next week, and the amount is expected to be close to £85m. They haven’t agreed on personal terms with the player yet, but finalising that shouldn’t be an issue.

The report further claims that if, for some reason, the North London club failed to purchase the Slovenian international, they have lined up Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres and Aston Villa ace Ollie Watkins as alternative options.

After signing a fresh term with the German side last summer, Sesko still has four years left in his current contract. Therefore, they are in a strong position to demand a big fee for him.

Sesko is standing at 6ft 5in tall and possesses the necessary attributes to become a world-class striker in the future. The 21-year-old is quick, possesses excellent shooting power, and is efficient in finishing off his chances.

Not many modern-day strikers are good in the air, but Sesko has an excellent leap and is proficient in this department. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service in this transfer window.
