Arteta wants Rodrygo as key summer target for Arsenal
Arsenal are targeting new wide attackers in the summer window, and Rodrygo has now emerged as a serious option.
The Brazilian forward is reportedly admired by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who believes he could become a star in the Premier League.
According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Arteta has been following the Real Madrid player for some time and remains interested in bringing him to north London.
The 24-year-old’s future at Real Madrid is now under the spotlight, especially with the club signing highly rated youngster Franco Mastantuono.
Rodrygo’s position in the team may be at risk, and reports say he is feeling unsettled. That has raised hopes in the Arsenal camp.
Mastantuono’s arrival adds more competition in the forward line, and that could push Rodrygo closer to an exit.
Arteta is said to believe that Rodrygo fits into his long-term plans, with the Spanish boss eager to strengthen the left flank.
Rodrygo’s Season and Arsenal’s Hopes
Though he did not have his best season, Rodrygo still finished the 2024/25 campaign with 14 goals and 10 assists across all competitions.
His ability to contribute both goals and assists has drawn attention from several clubs, but Arsenal seem to be pushing with real intent.
The Gunners have struggled with consistency in wide areas and see Rodrygo as a player who can add quality and versatility.
The Brazilian has played across all the forward positions for Madrid but is expected to be used mostly from the left if he joins Arsenal.
Arteta wants more directness and end product from his wide players, and Rodrygo’s skillset ticks many of those boxes.
It remains to be seen if Real Madrid will allow him to leave, especially after a fairly productive season.
However, Arsenal believe there is a chance to make a move, particularly if Rodrygo’s situation at the club continues to decline.
Talks are at an early stage, but Arsenal’s interest is serious. Rodrygo could be one of the headline signings for the Gunners this summer.
