Arsenal are reportedly ‘calling’ to sign Ajax Amsterdam star Jorrel Hato, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The youngster burst onto the scene, having displayed eye-catching performances at Johan Cruyff Arena in the 2023/24 campaign. After being impressed by him, the Gunners reportedly expressed their interest in him last summer.

However, the North London club didn’t make a concrete approach; instead, they decided to purchase Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna to bolster the defence. Eventually, the player stayed in the Dutch capital.

Hato enjoyed a promising campaign in the Eredivisie last term, scoring two goals and registering six assists. Moreover, he kept 11 clean sheets.

The 19-year-old guided the Eredivisie giants to mount a title charge, and they were the favourites to become Dutch champions. But after winning only one out of the last five games, they lost the title to PSV Eindhoven by just one point.

Now, Romao reports that despite deciding not to sign Hato last summer, Arsenal remain keen on Hato and are ‘calling’ to be informed about the situation of the defender.

Hato to Arsenal

The North London club are looking for a talented young defender after missing out on Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid and believe Hato would be an excellent option. However, no agreement or advancement has been made regarding this move yet.

Moreover, the journalist says that Chelsea are also in this race and have made contact to enquire about the details of signing the Ajax star. Therefore, it won’t be easy for the Gunners to seal the deal.

Hato is valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2028 with the Eredivisie giants. Therefore, they are likely to demand a big fee to let their star man leave.

He is a versatile left-footed defender as he is comfortable playing in the left-back position and the centre-back role. Hato is technically sound, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

He is a talented player and possesses high potential; therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service in this transfer window for a reasonable price.
