Arsenal interested in signing Monaco star Wilfried Singo
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing AS Monaco star Wilfried Singo, as per Caught Offside.
The Gunners currently have William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as the first-choice centre-back pairing, while Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jakub Kiwior can also play in this position if needed. Moreover, the quartet is comfortable playing as fullbacks.
Therefore, Mikel Arteta’s side are well resourced at the back, and their defensive displays in the last two seasons in the Premier League highlight exactly that as they conceded the fewest goals.
Still, it appears the North London club are exploring the market to hire a new defender this summer to add more depth in this position.
Caught Offside claim that Arsenal are interested in signing Singo and could make a concrete approach soon to seal the deal. The 24-year-old is set to leave Monaco this summer, and they want around £29m for him.
However, apart from the Gunners, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also plotting a swoop for him, while Atletico Madrid and Napoli are ready to make a move as well. Therefore, the Ivory Coast international isn’t short of potential suitors at the moment.
Singo to Arsenal
The Monaco star is a right-footed 6ft 3in tall versatile defender. He is capable of playing in the centre-back position and the right-back role, while he can also be deployed in the RWB position.
After moving to Stade Louis II a couple of years ago, the African has showcased glimpses of his qualities in Ligue 1 in recent years. He is quick across the ground, so he can play in a high defensive line.
Moreover, Singo is good in the air and is strong. Additionally, he is comfortable with the ball at his feet. Singo is also good at defensive contributions.
Therefore, the 24-year-old could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, having already got a strong defence, they don’t need to add more depth in this race unless anyone leaves.
So, the North London club would be better off saving the money to bolster other areas of the squad with the No.9 and left flank, the two areas that need reinforcements.
