Arsenal plot audacious swoop to sign Bradley Barcola
Arsenal are reportedly plotting an audacious swoop to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola, as per Catalan outlet El Nacional.
After moving to Parc des Princes from Olympique Lyonnais ahead of last season, the 22-year-old initially took time to settle down in his new surroundings before enjoying a productive campaign this term.
In 57 appearances in all competitions, the Frenchman has scored 21 goals and registered 17 assists. Moreover, he helped his side win the Coupe de France by scoring a brace and notching up an assist against Stade de Reims in the final last weekend.
However, El Nacional report that although Barcola was a key player in Luis Enrique’s starting eleven in the first half of this season, the scenario has changed since Khvicha Kvaratskhelia arrived in the winter window.
The Spanish boss has been using the front three of Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele, and Kvaratskhelia, so Barcola is frustrated with the situation, and his representatives have already started exploring options to find a new destination for him.
PSG don’t want to lose him but could accept a lucrative proposal, and he is valued at just over £42m with his existing deal set to run until 2028.
Barcola to Arsenal
Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him and could make a concrete approach over the coming weeks. However, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also in this race, so signing him won’t be easy for the Gunners.
Barcola is a left-winger by trait but is also comfortable on the opposite side. He is quick, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and also works hard without possession.
After Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard’s inconsistent performances this season, Mikel Arteta is reportedly willing to hire a new left-sided forward.
The Frenchman has showcased his qualities for Les Parisiens this season and is a highly talented player. He isn’t a finished article yet and has plenty of room to grow, therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to persuade him to move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
