Arsenal eye move to sign Atalanta star Ademola Lookman
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Atalanta star Ademola Lookman, as per Caught Offside.
Since Gian Piero Gasperini was appointed the new manager back in 2016, La Dea have been fighting for European places in Serie A consistently. He even guided his team to win the Europa League last campaign.
Amid this period, the Italian side produced several talented young players and sold them for big. Still, they managed to maintain their level.
However, a new era is set to commence at Gewiss Stadium from next season as Gasperini is reportedly open to leaving. Along with him, a few star players are also expected to move away, with Ederson and Mateo Retegui linked with a move to other clubs.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Lookman, having been impressed by his performances this campaign.
In 40 appearances in all competitions, the Nigerian international has netted 20 goals and registered six assists this season. He helped his side win the Europa League Champions last term by scoring a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
Lookman to Arsenal
Arsenal have been impressed by the 27-year-old’s versatility. Mikel Arteta likes a player like him and is an admirer of the forward. However, Atalanta usually don’t allow their star man to leave for cheap, and things won’t be different this time either. They have slapped a £50m price tag on his head.
However, the Gunners aren’t the only club interested in him as Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Juventus, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli, and Barcelona are also plotting a swoop.
Lookman is a left-sided forward but is also comfortable in the second striker role. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is efficient in finishing off his chances.
The Atalanta star is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal to upgrade the left flank. However, he can be inconsistent at times, so Arteta’s side need to be careful about that before making a move for him.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer to bolster the frontline.
