Arsenal make contact to sign Milan forward Rafael Leao

Arsenal have reportedly made contact over a deal to sign AC Milan forward Rafael Leao, as per Italian outlet Calciomercato.
Since moving to the San Siro Stadium from LOSC Lille, the Portuguese has been a talismanic figure over the years, helping his side win the Scudetto and Supercoppa Italiana. He is even the club’s highest-paid player.
The Rossoneri have had a disappointing campaign this season. Still, he has managed to showcase his qualities, scoring 12 goals and notching up 11 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions. He guided his team to reach the final of Coppa Italia, but eventually lost to Bologna.
However, Calciomercato report that Leao has had a dispute with Milan boss Sergio Conceicao, so the forward didn’t start in the last two games and remained an unused substitute in the final game of this season.
The forward has even removed pictures related to Milan from his Instagram account, fueling speculation about his future ahead of the summer transfer window.
Leao to Arsenal
Arsenal are planning to hire him by taking advantage of his current contract, as they want a new wide forward. Andrea Berta has even made contact to learn about the details of signing him.
However, the North London club consider him as an alternative option if they fail to purchase key targets, with Nico Williams and Anthony Gordon also linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Apart from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich are also interested in Leao, while Saudi Arabian clubs are in this race as well. But Milan don’t want to let him leave as they consider him a key player for the long-term project, having recently given him a new contract. He has a £147m release clause in his current deal.
Leao, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is quick, strong, excellent at dribbling past opposition defenders in tight areas, and also efficient in finishing off his chances.
He is a highly talented player, but can be inconsistent at times. Moreover, his work rate without possession isn’t good either, therefore, Arteta’s side need to be careful about these things before making any potential swoop for him.
