Arsenal plot ambitious swoop to sign Anthony Gordon
Arsenal are reportedly plotting an ambitious swoop to sign Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, as per a recent report.
The Magpies were a struggling team a few years ago, but since the Saudi takeover, they have been completely transformed.
Eddie Howe’s side managed to finish in the top four a couple of seasons ago but failed to replicate the same performance last term. However, they have been mounting a top-four charge once again this season. Furthermore, they have won the Carabao Cup.
Following Newcastle’s impressive performances in recent years, several of their key players have been attracting the attention of the upper echelon of English clubs.
Alexander Isak has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League this season and has appeared on the radar of both the Gunners and Liverpool. Moreover, Bruno Guimaraes has also been linked with a move away.
Now, as per a recent report (via the Express), Arsenal are planning to reinforce the left flank and have earmarked Gordon as a serious option. They could even make a concrete approach to secure his service this summer.
Gordon to Arsenal
Having recently extended his contract, the forward still has five years left on his current deal. Therefore, Newcastle are in a strong position to demand a big fee for him and want around £80m.
The report say the North London club aren’t the only club in this race as Chelsea are also interested in hiring him.
Arsenal want to reinforce the squad this summer to bridge the gap with Liverpool. They want a new striker and midfielder, along with a wide forward.
Gordon is a versatile forward as he is comfortable on either flank. Additionally, he can provide cover in the centre-forward position if needed.
The former Everton star displayed impressive performances last term but hasn’t been able to replicate the same performance this season. Still, he has made 15 goal contributions in all competitions.
The Newcastle star is a Premier League proven player and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.
