Arsenal in ‘pole position’ to sign Liverpool target Huijsen

By on May 14, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly in ‘pole position’ to sign Liverpool target and AFC Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen, as per transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Gunners have established themselves as one of the best teams defensively in the Premier League since the implementation of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as the first-choice centre-back pairing.

They conceded the fewest number of goals last season and have maintained a strong defensive record this campaign as well, although they haven’t been able to win the title on either occasion.

Following Gabriel’s injury absence, Jakub Kiwior has filled his void seamlessly during the final few weeks of this season. Moreover, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, and Riccardo Calafiori can also provide cover in the centre-back position if needed.

However, it appears Mikel Arteta wants to add more depth at the back, and Plettenberg says that Arsenal are in ‘pole position’ to lure Huijsen to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The 20-year-old has a contract until 2030 with the Cherries, but has a £50m release clause, and the money can be paid in three installments.

Huijsen to Arsenal

Liverpool are also leading this race alongside the Gunners, while Real Madrid are keen on purchasing him. Bayern Munich are also in this race, but they need to offload a few players to hire him. So, they are looking to sign Jonathan Tah as a free agent.

Therefore, purchasing the Spain international won’t be easy for the North London club, and the player will choose his next destination soon. The journalist wrote:

“Understand that Arsenal and Liverpool are currently in pole position for Dean Huijsen. A decision is expected soon. Real Madrid remain keen on him.

“A move to Bayern appears unlikely at this stage, as time is not on their side. To sign Huijsen, Bayern would need to make some sales — which haven’t happened yet. That’s why their focus is currently on Jonathan Tah, who is available as a free agent. Huijsen’s £50m/€58m release clause can be paid in three instalments.”

Huijsen, standing at 6ft 5in, is quick, strong, extremely composed with the ball at his feet, and reads the game extremely well.

He is a talented player and has showcased glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League this season. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service this summer.
