Another Trophyless Season for Arsenal; Arteta Worried

By on May 10, 2025

It might be another disappointing season without a trophy for the fans with Arsenal tickets.

Despite having a star-studded line-up this season, the Gunners are ending up without any silverware and with a potential threat of losing their second-place finish in the Premier League.

Ever since that iconic day at Wembley in 2020, winning the FA Cup, Arsenal have come close, but have given up on the fight in the last quarter.

Those with Arsenal tickets are exhausted – they are hurting.

And Arteta isn’t holding back anything as well.

Arteta – Trophyless Season will hurt!

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that it will “hurt” him to finish this season without a trophy.

The Gunners’ hopes of winning silverware ended on Wednesday night when Paris Saint-Germain knocked them out of the Champions League.

The French champions beat Arsenal 2-1 to win their semi-final 3-1 on aggregate and set up a showdown with Inter Milan in the final.

Arsenal had been fighting Liverpool, who they travel to on Sunday, for the Premier League – but Arsenal’s side secured the title last month.

This means the Gunners have not lifted a major trophy since 2020, when they won the FA Cup during Arteta’s first season in charge.

“If it doesn’t hurt, then it means you don’t love winning as much as I do, that’s for sure,” said Arteta. “But you also need to understand certain things that happened.

“It was impossible to try to aim to get the same kind of points, but what we did was to overperform when we could do, so there are a lot of ways to look at it when I sit down, have a look back, and I will make a much better reflection of that.

“I have so much to achieve and do, and we need to improve and get it done. That is what drives me every day. Those people, the staff, and the players drive me every single day.

“But yeah, if somebody probably has raised the standard and the expectation the highest, it has been me. Because I have been demanding and expecting much more, and after that much more. And after that much more.

“For me, it is the only way to do it, for everybody to have really high standards and demands. We are very, very close to achieving it.

“I understand the disappointment and the criticism. It is all part of it. At the end, there is one winner, and the rest of them aren’t going to win, so they need to reinvent themselves and do better. That is part of the cycle.”

Arteta revealed after Wednesday’s loss to PSG that the dressing room was full of emotion, with some players in tears.

The Arsenal boss now needs to quickly strengthen his squad as they head to Liverpool this weekend. The Gunners are currently second in the table, but they risk being overtaken by Manchester City.

Arsenal Chasing Real Madrid Superstar

Real Madrid have reportedly slapped a hefty price tag on Rodrygo amid links with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United – though the Gunners are expected to pursue an alternative winger this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad.

The Brazilian has been a vital component of Madrid’s success for a good few years, hitting double figures for goals in his last three seasons.

A happy medium prevailed for Rodrygo when he was on the right, Vinicius Jr was on the left, and Karim Benzema, followed by Joselu, led Los Blancos’ attack.

However, the summer arrival of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain is said to have upset the apple cart when it comes to the 24-year-old.

That has led to reports that Rodrygo is considering leaving Madrid. The winger is said to be ‘saddened’ by his diminishing importance in the team. Earlier, Rodrygo made up the starting frontline, but since late, he’s not a priority in the team composition, and with such a feeling, it is evident that you want to move out.

Now, Relevo journalist Javier Rodriguez Pascual allegedly claims that if Rodrygo leaves the Spanish giants, they want at least €100m (£85m, $113m) for his services.

Arsenal have reportedly inquired about signing him, but Liverpool are also monitoring the exciting winger. His contract runs until 2028, and after all he has done for the defending La Liga champions, he will not leave on the cheap.

While the Gunners have been credited with being interested in Rodrygo, a reported United target, Mikel Arteta’s men also have their eyes set on another exciting winger from La Liga.

While Rodrygo has come to the fore recently, Arsenal have long been chasing Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, who is said to remain their top target.

The 22-year-old snubbed a move to the Emirates last year to stay at his beloved club, but speculation is mounting again that he could be on the move this summer.

Williams is focusing on this season for now, but if one of his main goals doesn’t come to pass, a transfer exit could be on the cards.

He told Sport this week: “The dream is to lift the champion’s trophy at San Mamés. I have the opportunity to make history at this club. The dream never ends. I’m 100% focused on tomorrow (Thursday), on reaching the final and winning it.

“I don’t want to look any further. I’m super happy here and… well. I’ve always wanted to feel important here. This is a 10/10 season for me.”

Athletic Club were thumped 3-0 in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final a few days ago. Therefore, Williams’ dream of lifting that trophy is hanging by a thread.

Incidentally, Williams’s release clause is relatively affordable €58 million (£48m, $60m), but that could change if he signs a new deal with his boyhood team.

Arsenal will have to decide who they are chasing. Both of these prospects look like great additions to the side, but those with Arsenal tickets feel like Rodrygo will be a better match, with his experience that could benefit the team immensely.
