Following a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final first leg, Arsenal will face off against AFC Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League this evening.

Liverpool have already become the English champions, so the Gunners’ primary objective is to finish second in the league. Meaning their full focus is to win the Champions League.

On the other hand, Bournemouth have been in the running to qualify for European football next season. If Crystal Palace don’t win the FA Cup, eighth place would be enough to play in the Conference League next season, and the Cherries are currently just one point behind eighth.

Team news

Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Takehiro Tomiyasu’s season is already over due to their injuries. It was thought Kai Havertz had also played the last game of this season, but Mikel Arteta has said that there is a chance he could return to play the final few games.

Moreover, Riccardo Calafiori and Jorginho are also set to remain sidelined with their injury problems for this encounter. Neto has joined Arsenal on a loan deal from Bournemouth, so he isn’t eligible to play against his parent club. Thomas Partey was absent in the last game due to suspension, but is available for selection today.

Expected Arsenal line-up vs Bournemouth

Arteta is likely to make a few changes to his starting eleven for this game to give his key players a breather before next week’s Champions League semi-final second leg.

But David Raya is expected to continue in goal. William Saliba might be paired up with Jakub Kiwior in the centre-back position, while Kieran Tierney could be called upon to start in the left-back role to give Myles Lewis-Skelly a breather. Ben White is likely to commence in the right-back position ahead of Jurrien Timber.

Thomas Partey should be in the deep-lying playmaker role, while Oleksandr Zinchenko could be alongside the Ghanaian in the engine room. Martin Odegaard might be in the CAM position. Therefore, Declan Rice and Mikel Merino may feature off the bench.

Raheem Sterling is expected to be on the left flank, while Ethan Nwaneri would be on the opposite side. Therefore, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are set to get a weekend break. Leandro Trossard could be leading the line for the hosts.
