Arsenal ‘will’ revive interest in signing Nico Williams
Arsenal ‘will’ revive interest in signing Athletic Club forward Nico Williams, as per the Gunners’ transfer expert Charles Watts.
After becoming the new manager back in 2019, Mikel Arteta guided the North London club to win the FA Cup title the following year. Since then, they have been in a trophy drought.
Although the Spanish boss has made Arsenal a Premier League title contender, he has been struggling to help the club take the next step and win it.
However, the Gunners have reached the semi-final of the Champions League, and they can end their trophy drought this campaign.
Unfortunately, Arsenal lost the first leg at home 1-0 to PSG, which has made their task of reaching the final more difficult, but Arteta has expressed his confidence in turning the tie around at Parc des Princes.
In the meantime, as the season approaches its conclusion, the rumour mill has begun linking a host of names with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Williams to Arsenal
Now, on Caught Offside, Watts claims that Arsenal are planning to hire a new wide forward and remain keen on signing Williams as he is Mikel Arteta’s ‘first choice’ option. So, the Emirates club ‘will’ revive interest in signing him during the off-season.
They were heavily linked with a move for the Spaniard last summer but never made a formal approach. In the end, he remained at San Mamés Stadium. The forward has a contract until 2027 with the Basque club and has a £49m release clause.
Williams has been one of the hottest prospects in La Liga and helped his side win the Copa del Rey last season. Moreover, he has propelled his team to the semi-final of the Europa League this term and will face off against Manchester United.
Along with club football, the 22-year-old has showcased his qualities on the international stage, winning the European Championship with Spain last summer.
Therefore, Williams would be a great acquisition for Arsenal if they eventually manage to secure his service in the upcoming transfer window.
Meanwhile, after the PSG assignment, Arsenal will face off against AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend.
