Arsenal eye move to sign Lyon star Rayan Chekri
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Olympique Lyonnais star Rayan Chekri, as per Caught Offside.
After failing to win the Premier League title once again this season, the Gunners are reportedly planning to bolster several areas of the squad ahead of next campaign.
It is an open secret that the North London club want to sign a new striker, as Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus haven’t been able to prove that they can help the club win the title. Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, and Viktor Gyokeres have all been mentioned as potential targets.
Moreover, Mikel Arteta reportedly also wants a new wide forward as Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have had inconsistent campaigns this term.
Furthermore, they are seemingly interested in signing a new centre-back as well, as they have been linked with a move for AFC Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen.
Now, Caught Offside state that Arsenal are planning to bolster the attacking midfield position and have expressed their interest in Cherki.
Lyon would be open to letting him leave as he will enter the final year of his existing deal this summer. They could demand up to £30m for him, with the player open to taking the next step in his career and moving to the Premier League.
Cherki to Arsenal
However, purchasing him won’t be straightforward as AC Milan, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa are all in this race. Moreover, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are the frontrunners to get the deal done.
Cherki can play anywhere across the CAM role and is comfortable with both feet. He is technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has an eye for long-range passing, and can also create opportunities for the attackers.
Arsenal currently have Martin Odegaard as the only option to deploy in the No.10 position. Ethan Nwaneri can provide cover in this role, but has been deputising for Bukayo Saka on the right flank.
Therefore, signing a new midfielder to support the Norwegian would be the right decision. Cherki is highly talented and possesses the potential to become a world-class player in the future.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.
