Arsenal eye move to sign Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.
After ranking through the Villans’ youth system, the 23-year-old made his first team debut back in 2019. He initially struggled to find regular game time at Villa Park, so he went out on loan to Doncaster Rovers to play regularly and develop his career.
After returning from his loan spell, Ramsey established himself as a regular starter for his boyhood club, but he has had injury problems in recent campaigns. Following that, he has been featuring as a rotational option under Unai Emery this season.
Now, reporting on TBR Football, Bailey says that Aston Villa are unsure whether they will be able to find an agreement with the player to extend his current contract, which will run until 2027.
Therefore, they might be open to cashing-in on him this summer to make the most profit out of his departure. He is a Villa academy graduate, so his sale will be a pure profit for the club.
Ramsey to Arsenal
Arsenal are interested in signing him and could make a concrete approach ahead of next season. However, the North London club aren’t alone in this race as Chelsea and Manchester City are also plotting a swoop for him.
Ramsey, valued at around £27m by Transfermarkt, usually plays as a left winger under Emery but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role in the midfield three. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and has the ability to play threading passes between the lines.
The Englishman has made nine goal contributions in all competitions thus far this season and has started only 22 games in the Premier League and the Champions League.
Arsenal reportedly want a new left-sided forward, and Ramsey would be able to add depth in this position if they eventually opt to secure his service this summer.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side need an upgrade to Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli to close the gap with Liverpool, but Ramsey might not be an ideal option for that.
Therefore, the North London club would be better off exploring other options to strengthen the attacking department this summer.
