Arsenal battling with PL rivals to sign Joao Gomes
Arsenal are reportedly in a battle with Premier League rivals over a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes, as per Caught Offside.
After moving to Molineux Stadium from Flamengo a couple of years ago, the Brazilian has established himself as a key player for the West Midlands club.
He helped his side finish mid-table in the Premier League last campaign. This season, he has been guiding Wolves to survival relegation, sitting 17th in the table with 29 points from 30 games, they currently have a healthy lead from the drop zone.
Now, Caught Offside claim that although the South American recently extended his deal with Wolves until 2030, Vitor Pereira’s side are ready to sell him if they receive an appropriate offer so his future is ‘one to watch’.
Arsenal hold a long-term interest in the 24-year-old and could make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.
However, purchasing him won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested in him with the Reds planning to submit a formal £40m bid to seal the deal.
Gomes to Arsenal
The Gunners are reportedly planning to remain busy under their new sporting director Andrea Berta’s supervision this summer as they are willing to assemble a squad that can finally win the Premier League title.
Signing a new striker is their priority and hiring a new backup option to David Raya is also on Mikel Arteta’s agenda as Neto is set to return to his parent club AFC Bournemouth this summer.
Moreover, considering Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s contract set to expire at the end of this season, strengthening the midfield department is also on Arsenal’s wishlist.
Gomes is a hardworking player and is comfortable playing in the box-to-box role. He has showcased glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League in recent times so he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually manage to secure Gomes’s service by beating Man Utd and Liverpool in this race this summer.
