Arsenal express interest in signing Charles De Ketelaere
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Atalanta forward Charles De Ketelaere, as per Caught Offside.
Following Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’s season-ending injury, the Gunners have been left without any centre-forward option. Mikel Arteta opted to deploy Leandro Trossard in the No.9 position against Leicester City in the Premier League last weekend.
However, he struggled to display his best in this position as he is more comfortable out wide. Surprisingly, Mikel Merino stepped up and helped the North London club win the game by scoring a brace. The Spaniard started as a substitute but came on as an auxiliary striker in the second half.
It has widely been suggested Arsenal need a world-class striker to finally win the Premier League title. Arteta’s side have reportedly started exploring the market to sign a new forward with Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko and Mateo Retegui linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Now, Caught Offside state that Arsenal are also interested in De Ketelaere and have been keeping a close eye on him before making a possible move.
However, the Gunners aren’t alone in this race as Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Newcastle United, Manchester City and West Ham United are also keen on hiring him.
De Ketelaere to Arsenal
De Ketelaere, standing at 6ft 3in tall, is a versatile forward as he can play in the centre forward, attacking midfield and second striker position. He has been in fine form this season, making 22 goal contributions in all competitions.
The Belgian is a similar type of player to Kai Havertz but Arsenal need a specialist centre forward to take the next step in their rebuild and finally win the Premier League title.
Arteta likes having versatile players and De Ketelaere could be a useful option for Arsenal if they purchase him. But, the North London club should also go for a new striker even if they opt to hire the Belgian.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually make a concrete approach to lure De Ketelaere to the Emirates Stadium ahead of next season to strengthen the squad.
