Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly Has Red Card and Suspension Overturned

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly has had his red card and three-match suspension overturned following a successful appeal, the FA confirmed this evening.
The 18-year-old was controversially sent off following a foul on Matt Doherty during Arsenal’s recent fixture against Wolves. Referee Michael Oliver deemed the tackle reckless and a serious foul, a decision that was upheld by VAR at the time.
The call sparked outrage among Arsenal fans and pundits, who argued that the challenge did not warrant a red card. Lewis-Skelly made a cynical foul to stop an attack, and did NOT commit a reckless or dangerous tackle when he clipped the foot of Doherty.
Arsenal promptly appealed the decision, and their claim has now been upheld by an independent three-person panel. This means Lewis-Skelly’s three-match ban has been rescinded, allowing the talented youngster to return to action immediately.
FA’S STATEMENT:
In a statement shared on Twitter, an FA spokesperson revealed that an Independent Regulatory Commission reviewed the appeal and concluded that the red card was a case of wrongful dismissal. As a result, the suspension has been removed entirely.
‘An Independent Regulatory Commission has upheld the claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Myles Lewis-Skelly and removed his three-match suspension,’ the statement read.
‘The player was sent off for serious foul play during their Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers in Saturday, 25 January 2025’
This development is a significant boost for Arsenal, as Lewis-Skelly will now be eligible to face Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, and the further games against Newcastle and Leicester. The teenager, widely regarded as one of Arsenal’s brightest young talents, will be looking to make an impact as the Gunners aim to maintain their strong form this season.
Arsenal’s next challenge comes in the UEFA Champions League, where they will face Girona on Wednesday night. The Gunners are determined to finish the group stage on a high and carry momentum into the knockout rounds.
With Lewis-Skelly’s availability restored, Mikel Arteta will have additional options as Arsenal continue to compete on multiple fronts. Fans will be eager to see how the team performs, with crucial fixtures against Manchester City and Girona on the horizon.
This decision marks a fair outcome for Lewis-Skelly, who now has the chance to continue his development uninterrupted as Arsenal chase silverware this season.
