Arsenal eye surprise swoop to sign Brentford’s Yoane Wissa
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a surprise swoop to sign Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, as per The Telegraph.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the two centre-forward options the Gunners currently have at their disposal. But, the German has found it difficult to score goals consistently this season, netting only seven times in 18 Premier League appearances.
On the other hand, after returning from his injury problems, Jesus started looking bright recently but he has now sustained a serious knee injury and as a result, his season is over.
Therefore, it has been reported that following the Brazilian’s injury, Mikel Arteta wants to hire a new striker in this window to continue the title charge in the second half of this season.
A few names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak being among them.
Wissa to Arsenal
Now, The Telegraph state that Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Wissa and they could make a move for him before the deadline. The North London club want to hire him due to his ability to play anywhere across the frontline.
However, Nottingham Forest are also keen on signing the African so it won’t be straightforward for Arteta’s side to lure the Brentford star to the Emirates Stadium in this window.
The forward is valued at around £24m by Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2026 at Gtech Community Stadium. Therefore, the Bees might be open to cashing-in on him this year to avoid losing him for free.
The forward has been in impressive form this season, scoring 11 goals and registering two assists in 18 Premier League appearances thus far. Moreover, after netting against Manchester City in midweek, he has now become the Bees’s record goal scorer in the Premier League.
Wissa is a talented player and would add depth to Arsenal’s attacking department if they hire him. However, there is a question mark whether the 28-year-old possesses the necessary qualities to help the Gunners achieve their lofty ambitions. Therefore, Arsenal would be better off exploring more proven options to strengthen the centre-forward position.
