Arsenal urged to sign Alexander Isak to win the PL title
Former striker turned pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Arsenal to sign Newcastle United ace Alexander Isak to finally win the Premier League title.
The Gunners came very close to winning the league title in the last two campaigns but were eventually pipped to the post by Manchester City on both occasions.
After failing to win the league last term, it was thought that the North London club would attempt to sign a new striker last summer. But, they eventually opted not to do that instead they decided to sell Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace. Now, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the two strikers Arsenal currently have.
Mikel Arteta’s side enjoyed a promising start to this season but failed to continue the momentum just before the November international break.
They are currently nine points behind the league leaders Liverpool and speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor says that Arsenal are already out of the title race. They are too reliant on Bukayo Saka and are missing a real prolific striker like Isak.
Arsenal urged to sign Isak
The pundit feels Havertz hasn’t been good enough in recent games and Arsenal need to sign a striker like Isak in January to challenge for the Premier League title this term.
Agbonlahor said:
“Arsenal, for me, are dying for an Isak. That sort of player who can hold the ball up. [Isak] is strong, he’s aggressive, he’s quick in behind and he can score every type of goal.
“Havertz is getting bullied. He doesn’t know where he’s playing. The Chelsea game he was so poor. So for me, Arsenal, if they don’t make a top striker signing in January, I don’t think they’re going to be up there.”
The Swedish international – valued at around £63m by Transfermarkt – has a contract until 2028 with the Tyneside club. Therefore, they are in a strong position to demand a large sum if they are forced to cash-in on him next year.
Isak has been in stellar form in recent times as he has made seven goal contributions in his last six games for club and country. He is still just 25 and is at the right stage of his career to take the next step in his career.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service in the January window.
