Arsenal wrap up their pre-season tour of the United States when they take on Liverpool at the Lincoln Financial Field Stadium in Philadelphia on Wednesday night.
The Gunners have already played two friendlies in the US as they continue their pre-season preparations ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. Mikel Arteta’s men kicked things off with a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth with Fabio Vieira’s early striker cancelled out by Antonio Semenyo.
Arsenal then took on Manchester United in a blockbuster clash in LA on Saturday night. The North Londoners fell behind to an early Rasmus Hojlund strike but fought back to claim a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli.
Arsenal will now take on another familiar foe in Liverpool before heading back to the UK to prepare for a clash against Bayer Leverkusen at the Emirates Stadium next week. Their final pre-season game is against Lyon in the Emirates Cup on August 11th before taking on Wolves on the opening weekend of the new season.
Liverpool are starting a new era under Arne Slot after he replaced Jurgen Klopp earlier in the summer. The Dutchman has overseen one win and one loss so far in pre-season so he’ll be hoping to improve upon that record with a positive result against the Gunners.
The Reds slumped to a shock 1-0 loss to Preston in Slot’s first game in charge before beating Real Betis 1-0 thanks to a Dominik Szoboszlai strike. Liverpool will now face a much sterner test against Arsenal on Wednesday night.
Team news
Arsenal have been without several of their key players so far in pre-season after their exploits with their nations this summer. Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale, David Raya and William Saliba are yet to play any part in their tour and won’t feature on Wednesday.
Gabriel Magalhaes, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli all linked-up with the squad on the 25th and played a part in the win over Man Utd, so they should feature in this game.
New signing Riccardo Calafiori has trained with the squad after joining from Bologna on Monday but this game may come too soon.
Liverpool have also been without several first team players in pre-season with the likes of Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alexis MacAlister and Ibrahima Konate among those missing.
Curtis Jones is out after picking up a knock against Real Betis but Wataru Endo could start in midfield.
Betting odds
Arsenal are the narrow 2.38 favourites to win the game on the betting exchanges. You can get odds of 2.76 on Liverpool while the draw is available at odds of 3.45.
Under 2.5 match goals can be backed at odds of 2.40 on the exchanges, which seems like good value considering most pre-season games have been low scoring affairs so far.
If you fancy a draw, 1-1 looks a solid bet at odds of 7.00 while a 2-1 Arsenal win looks tempting at 9.80.
How to bet
Gone are the days when betting enthusiasts had to trek to their local betting shop to place a bet. The vast majority of wagers are now placed digitally, with a growing number using betting apps to place their bets.
You can still use a traditional betting shop or a desktop/laptop to use bookmakers online. However, the convenience of using a betting app makes it the easy choice for many gamblers.
If you want to place a bet on Arsenal vs Liverpool, you can safely download an app and make secure transactions via your smartphone. For example, the 1win app provides a comprehensive betting environment with a simple download 1win app process, easy navigation and secure payment methods.
There are a wide range of betting apps available with the likes of Bet365, Parimatch, Fun88 and William Hill also among those to offer betting apps for their customers.
Predictions
It’s always difficult to predict friendly matches as managers are working with weakened squads and the main aim is to enhance fitness rather than secure results.
We’re expecting a close game between two Premier League giants but Arsenal may just have the edge. They have been working from a stronger squad so far in pre-season compared to Liverpool and they’ll be confident of picking up a win.
We wouldn’t be surprised if the game ends in a 1-1 draw but if there is to be a winner, we expect it to be Arsenal. The Gunners to win 2-1 looks a solid bet at odds of 9.80.
