Arsenal reportedly remain keen on signing Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Following Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah’s disappointing displays last season, the Gunners are said to be willing to cash-in on one of them and are planning to sign a new prolific goal-scorer to reinforce their frontline.

A plethora of strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few weeks with Benjamin Sesko looked like their primary target.

However, the youngster has decided to remain at RB Leipzig so the North London club have started exploring alternative options in recent days. Gyokeres has been mentioned as a serious target and it was even reported that Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign him having already reached an agreement with Sporting over the transfer fee.

However, Romano has recently denied the claim and said that nothing is imminent regarding Gyokeres’ move to Arsenal as the Gunners haven’t stepped up their efforts to sign him yet.

However, the journalist says that Arsenal remain keen on signing him and could formalise their interest over the coming weeks.

Romano said:

“On Gyokeres guys, nothing is imminent. I can guarantee you that nothing is happening with Gyokeres right now, but the interest is always there, but still nothing imminent.”

The forward has a £85m release clause in his current contract so Arsenal will have to splash huge money to secure his signature.

Gyokeres has burst onto the scene after enjoying a productive campaign last term, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.

However, he has recently undergone knee surgery so he first needs to fully recover before Arsenal can manage to get any potential deal done for him.

The 26-year-old is quick, strong, good in the air, excellent in finishing off his chances and also works extremely hard without possession. So, he possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League, therefore he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to reinforce their attacking department by signing the Swedish international in this transfer window.
