Amadou Onana Everton

Arsenal have reportedly held talks with Everton over a deal to sign Everton star Amadou Onana this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners’ desire to strengthen their engine room by purchasing a new midfielder is already well-known. It has been suggested that Mikel Arteta wants a new option as he doesn’t want to count on Thomas Partey anymore due to his persistent fitness problems.

Douglas Luiz, Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimaraes have all been mentioned as serious targets, but Onana is reportedly on their radar as well.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a key player for Everton in recent times after joining the club from LOSC Lille a couple of years ago. Having displayed his qualities in the Premier League, he has secured his place in Belgian’s starting eleven.

So, it appears having been impressed by the 22-year-old’s recent performances, the North London club have decided to register their interest in signing him.

Onana to Arsenal

Speaking on GiveMeSport, Romano has reported that Arsenal have already made ‘contact’ with Everton to learn about the details of signing Onana. But, they haven’t decided to push forward with a deal to secure his signature yet.

Romano said:

“[It is] not something really concrete at this point. They had some contact, yes, in terms of being informed on the players’ situation, but it’s not the proper negotiation to the club yet. I think Arsenal has several names in that list for the midfield. Onana is appreciated by many, many clubs in England.”

It has been reported that having been found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, Everton will be forced to cash-in on some of their stars to balance the books.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Onana are the options who could help the Merseyside club generate big money, so the duo has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park.

Everton could reportedly ask a fee of around £50m for the Belgian so he could be an affordable option for Arsenal to reinforce their midfield department.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign him this summer.
