Arsenal eye swoop to sign Douglas Luiz to replace Partey

Arsenal are reportedly planning to sign Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz to replace Thomas Partey this summer, as per the Italian outlet Tutto Juve.

The Gunners hold a long-term interest in the Brazilian as they were heavily linked with a move for him a few years ago. But, the midfielder eventually opted to remain at the Villans, rejecting a move to the North London club.

However, despite failing to sign him last time around, Arsenal haven’t given up on their hopes of securing his signature. According to the report by Tutto Juve, Mikel Arteta’s side are searching for a new midfielder to replace Partey and have identified Luiz as a serious option.

The report further claims that Unai Emery’s side could accept a fee of around £60m to sell their star man so the Gunners will have to spend big to lure their long-term target to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

However, the Italian outlet states that Liverpool and Juventus are also keen on signing him, therefore, the North London club are set to face fierce competition from their rivals over this deal.

Luiz to Arsenal

After joining the club from Atletico Madrid back in 2020, Partey has established himself as a key player in Arteta’s starting eleven over the last few years. However, he has been struggling to stay fit in recent seasons.

Therefore, it has been reported that Arteta has become frustrated with his fitness problems so he is willing to sign a new midfielder to reinforce the engine room.

Martin Zubimendi, Bruno Guimaraes and Joao Neves have all been mentioned as serious targets, but it has previously been reported that Luiz is the primary option.

The former Manchester City star is a technically sound player and can play in the holding midfield position as well as the box-to-box role. He can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing, is excellent in taking set-pieces, has the tendency to chip-in with some important goals and also can contribute defensively.

Luiz is a Premier League proven player so he would be a risk-free signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club can eventually secure his signature in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their midfield department.
