Arsenal are reportedly ‘gaining in confidence’ to secure the signing of Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes this summer, as per TEAMtalk.

After moving to St James’ Park a couple of years ago, the Brazilian has established himself as a key player in Eddie Howe’s side in recent times, playing a pivotal role in helping the Magpies secure the top-four finish last season.

However, although Howe’s side have found it difficult to replicate the same performances this season, the 26-year-old has displayed eye-catching performances.

So, it seems after being impressed by the South American’s recent performances, the Gunners have registered a firm interest in signing him this summer.

According to the report by TEAMtalk, after getting frustrated with Thomas Partey’s consistent injury problems, Arsenal have decided to let him leave the club this summer. In addition, Mohamed Elneny is also expected to leave so Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to sign a new midfielder to bolster their engine room.

Guimaraes to Arsenal

The report further claims that Arsenal have identified Guimaraes as a serious option after realising that purchasing the primary target Douglaz Luiz would be impossible and are ‘gaining in confidence’ to lure the Newcastle star to the Emirates Stadium. TEAMtalk further claims that Newcastle need to sell one of their stars to raise funds in order to add new faces this summer so they could let Guimaraes leave the club.

It has also been reported that the Magpies won’t accept a fee of anything less than £80m, while they may demand around £120m. However, it has been suggested that Guimaraes has a £100m release clause included in his current contract and that can only be triggered before the end of June. So, it is clear that Arsenal will have to splash a big fee to secure his signature this summer.

Guimaraes is a Premier League proven star and possesses the necessary qualities to play in Mikel Arteta’s possession-based system. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to secure the former Olympique Lyonnais star’s signature to reinforce their engine room in the upcoming transfer window.
