Arsenal know they can sign Martin Zubimendi if they pay £51m
Estadio Deportivo reports that Arsenal already know they will have to pay Martin Zubimendi’s £51m release clause if they want to sign the midfielder; negotiations with Real Sociedad are pointless.
Mikel Arteta is expected to strengthen his squad this summer after another encouraging campaign. The Gunners have competed for the Premier League title for the second consecutive year, and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
However, Arsenal need to add more depth to their squad if they want to be capable of competing on all fronts next season, and Arteta is expected to be busy in the summer transfer window.
As well as targeting a new defender, winger and striker, Arteta is also tipped to bring in another top class central midfielder. Thomas Partey, Mohammed Elneny, and Jorginho all face uncertain futures and Arsenal are expected to sign at least one replacement.
David Ornstein stated earlier this month that Arsenal are in the market for a midfielder and if they sign a No. 6, Zubimendi is the top target.
No negations, just £51m for Zubimendi
Estadio Deportivo, in a report about Zubimendi, acknowledges Real Sociedad for their ability to produce talent but also for their unwillingness to part with their top players without a fight.
The report says Sociedad won’t negotiate for Zubimendi, so the likes of Arsenal will have to trigger his £51m release clause if they want to sign the Spaniard this summer.
Several other clubs are showing an interest in Zubimendi, so Arsenal will not only have to pay his release fee, they will also have to convince the player to join them over their rivals.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but Zubimendi would be a terrific addition. He would conduct play from deep and allow Declan Rice to play in a more box-to-box role that he’s excelled in at times this season.
