Darren Bent has backed Arsenal to push ahead with a move to sign Alexander Isak this summer, saying the Newcastle United forward is like Gunners legend Thierry Henry, according to the Sunderland Echo.

In recent weeks, the Newcastle striker has been performing exceptionally well. His brace against the Spurs last weekend during a 4-0 victory has extended his streak to seven goals in six games. Though injuries have held him back this season, he has still scored an impressive 17 goals in 24 league games.

The 24-year-old’s exceptional talent has caught the attention of a number of top clubs, with Arsenal strongly linked with a move for the Swedish international in recent weeks.

Isak to Arsenal

Newcastle’s tricky financial position may force them to sell one of their top stars this summer to comply with UEFA’s financial fair play regulations. The Toon are in a position where they need to sell in order to balance their books and bring in money to fund some much-needed investments in the summer.

Because of that, there have been numerous reports indicating that Isak is likely to be on the move this summer. And according to Darren Bent, he would be the perfect addition to Arsenal’s squad.

The talkSPORT pundit believes that the deal could be worth a significant amount, around £80–100 million. But he claims that money would be well spent as Isak can ‘do everything’. Bent even compares the Newcastle hitman to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

When asked about Arsenal’s links to Isak, Bent said on talkSPORT via the Sunderland Echo:

“Again, I am not saying that they are the same, but the way he finishes, that side foot, is like Thierry, just caress it into the far corner. But yeah, if there was one centre-forward out there you said who should Arsenal buy, it’s him. (He is worth) £80-100 million, and I would happily pay it.

“He can do everything. He can take the ball in tight spaces, he can create, he can even come off the left.”

Arsenal have been actively searching for a striker, and Isak has been a player of interest for quite some time as the Gunners have tracked him since his days with Real Sociedad.

Given the reports in the media lately, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Arsenal test Newcastle’s resolve to keep him with a formal move for the striker this summer.

If Arsenal table a significant offer, the Magpies may be forced to give it serious consideration due to their difficult financial position. And there is no doubt Isak would be a terrific addition to Arteta’s squad if a deal could be agreed.
