According to the Express, MLS goalkeeper Patrick Schulte is garnering interest from the Premier League, with Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly keen on signing him.

The 23-year-old’s top performances with Columbus Crew in the MLS have sparked interest from England. The report says Arsenal are showing a keen interest but face competition from Manchester United.

Arsenal and United are both interested in signing a top goalkeeper this summer. Arsenal may need to replace their ‘wantaway’ goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale. After signing in 2021 for £24 million, the Englishman proved to be a revelation in Mikel Arteta’s project.

Arsenal were not at their best during the 2021–22 season, but Ramsdale showed flashes of brilliance. In the 2022–23 season, he was excellent and was named as the Premier League Goalkeeper of the season after helping Arsenal mount a title challenge.

We fell short in our quest for the title, but Edu was so impressed with Ramsdale’s contributions that he offered him a new deal, so many thought he was set to be Arsenal’s No.1 for years to come.

However, despite having Ramsdale on the books, Arsenal signed David Raya from Brentford last summer. Arteta stated that he only signed Raya for competition for the No.1 spot.

However, since the September international break, it has become evident that Arteta signed Raya because he believed he would have a better chance of winning the league with him rather than Ramsdale. Raya has been Arsenal’s No.1 for the majority of the season.

Ramsdale out, Schulte in

Ramsdale, 25, has ended up as a backup goalie. That is not a situation that a goalkeeper tipped to become England’s No. 1 can be comfortable with. He is bound to leave in the summer, with Newcastle heavily linked with his services.

Arteta will need a new back up keeper, and Schulte has emerged as a prime target. With his contract expiring at the end of the year, Arsenal, may sign the 6ft 2in ace at a discount, with Transfermarkt estimating his worth at around £3 million.

Ramsdale will be sold for well over £20m, so Arsenal should be able to bank a sizeable profit from their goalkeeper trade this summer. However, it won’t be easy to sign Schulte as Man Utd are also in the running for his signature.
