Arsenal ‘offer’ £51m for Sporting star Ousmane Diamonde
According to the Record, via Sport Witness, Arsenal want to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diamonde in the summer and have ‘offered’ £51m for the African star.
The newspaper claims Mikel Arteta has put in a transfer request to the club; he wants his project bolstered with a top centre back this summer.
The Spaniard, who has been lucky not to have lost any of his central defenders to injury this season, must have realised how thin his defensive options are.
And so to meet this ‘transfer request’, Record claims Arsenal have set their sights on Ousmane Diamonde — a 20-year-old defensive prodigy from Sporting Lisbon.
The Gunners have reportedly been tracking the Ivory Coast international for some time — they had him on their radar even before he left FC Midtjylland in the winter of 2023.
Reports from last summer state that Sporting rejected a £30 million bid from Arsenal for his services. Well, the North Londoners are returning for the defender this summer.
Diamonde to Arsenal
According to the Record, Arsenal have opened talks with Diamonde’s entourage and Sporting Lisbon to try and thrash out a deal. Diamonde’s contract with the Primeira Liga side includes £69m release clause. The report says Arsenal have ‘offered’ £51m plus bonuses for the defender.
However, the Gunners face stiff competition as Record claims that Chelsea have also offered £51m for Diamonde, while Bayern Munich and Newcastle United are also keen on the defender.
Arsenal, with ambitions to progress, ought to win that transfer race. Diamonde is a top centre back who’s highly skilled, versatile, and has excellent ball-winning abilities. In him, they’ll be recruiting a player who can ‘command’ their defence for years to come.
As good as Arsenal’s defence has been this season with William Saliba and Gabriel, adding Diamonde would provide Arteta with some much needed depth as the Gunners look to compete on all fronts next season.
