Jonathan David

Arsenal have reportedly expressed their interest in signing LOSC Lille star Jonathan David this summer, as per the transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

The 24-year-old has been displaying promising performances in Ligue 1 in recent times. The forward came under the radar of several big clubs around Europe and it was thought that he would leave Les Dogues last summer.

However, Lille never received a formal proposal from any clubs and as a result, a deal didn’t materialise. But, with the striker set to enter the final year of his current contract this summer, it is highly likely that Lille will look to cash-in on him in fear of losing him for free next year.

Bailey has reported on HITC that Arsenal admire the striker very much and they have been keeping a close eye on his development in recent times before making a potential swoop this summer.

However, the journalist states that Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are also eyeing a move for him so the Gunners are set to face fierce competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.

David to Arsenal

Considering David – valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt – is set to enter the final 12 months of his current contract this summer, Lille would be forced to sell the forward in a cut-price deal.

David is a highly talented player and has already showcased his qualities in the Ligue 1 in recent times. So, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, strikers previously failed to showcase their best in the Premier League after flourishing their career at Ligue 1 and the prime examples of that are Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette. So, the North London club should keep that in mind before making a move for David.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to make a concrete approach to acquire the Lille star’s service ahead of next season to reinforce their attacking department.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have secured their place in the quarter-final of the Champions League by beating FC Porto, and now Arteta’s side have been drawn to play against Bayern Munich. So, a tough tie lies ahead for the Emirates club after the international break.
