According to Dean Jones via Give Me Sport, Arsenal might make ‘one of the best signings’ in Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.

Arsenal’s midfield is one area where fans could expect to see additions in the summer. Over the last few months, they have been linked with a number of top midfield players.

Martin Zubimendi, Amadou Onana, and Douglas Luiz are some of the quality midfielders linked. So it’s not being ambitious to anticipate a marquee midfielder signing in the summer.

Palhinha to Arsenal

Dean Jones identifies Joao Palhinha as a fine player who can take any team’s midfield to the next level. The Portuguese star, a Premier League standout, was anticipated to join Bayern Munich last summer. However, his transfer fell through at the eleventh hour.

Bayern were expected to renew their interest, but Jones believes that with Thomas Tuchel set to depart the Bundesliga club, they may re-consider the swoop. However, as we wait for the summer to see if the German team will pursue Palhinha, the transfer insider believes Arsenal (and Liverpool) will try to sign him.

Jones said:

“Obviously, Thomas Tuchel was the guy heavily pushing the move to Bayern. If that starts not to become an option, you start to wonder where Thomas Tuchel will end up next, and if it is a big club, does that open the door for Palhinha to go there?

“Palhinha has been talked about in terms of Arsenal and Liverpool. I think he would do a tremendous job in either of those teams.

“At the right price, he is gettable. With that being the case, I feel like he could be one of the best signings anyone could make this summer.”

Jones believes Palhinha is an excellent midfielder who would thrive at Arsenal. And he argues that he could be a good signing for Arteta.

The Cottagers have slapped a £50 million price tag on the dependable midfielder’s head. To some, that may be a steep price, but given how impressive the ex-Sporting Lisbon player has been in the Premier League, he could be worth it.

According to PL statistics, Palhinha has made the most tackles (105), with no Gunner in the top ten of that category. So, if Arsenal beat Liverpool to his signature, he may be a boost to Arteta’s project.

With a player with Joao Palhinha’s skill set, the Arsenal midfield could be the best there is next season.

Come the summer he will be near 29. To give him just a short 4 year contract he is Too old to invest in. He will be near 29 come the summer, and if given just a short 4 year contract, that would make you expect him to be still performing when he is 32 or 33. Not worth the value, contract or high wages. Too old. True value should be £35 to £40 million, no more due to only two years peak performance left and no resell value. But I would pay up to £40 million, because even if you get only two years peak performance out of him, it would be worth it.
