Guardiola discusses Arsenal’s title race advantage over Liverpool
Pep Guardiola recently revealed that Arsenal may be his strongest rival in this title fight, more so than Liverpool.
It is clear that the 2023–24 Premier League title race will be between Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal. There was only two points separating the three teams before this weekend’s games.
Arsenal moved top of the table by beating Brentford on Saturday evening. But Liverpool or Man City would regain first place if either team wins their clash at Anfield on Sunday.
Arsenal more efficient than Liverpool
Notably, Pep Guardiola, speaking ahead of this title-deciding weekend, made a dig at Liverpool. The Manchester City manager suggested that Arsenal may wind up being more dangerous in the title race than Liverpool.
According to the Spaniard, Arsenal wins games convincingly; they kill off games early. Liverpool, on the other hand, is inefficient in his opinion; while they win, they leave it late; some of their victories could easily have resulted in a draw or a loss.
Guardiola said:
“Liverpool have always been Liverpool, and the contenders are there.
“Arsenal is already there; last season they were our biggest rivals. Look how they play.
“Liverpool need more than 90 minutes to win the game, sometimes more; Arsenal sometimes need just 25 minutes to win the games. That’s why they are there.”
Arsenal’s strong league performance since the winter break has piqued the interest of many. They have been effective and ruthless. Any Premier League rival who underestimates Arsenal will be sorely disappointed.
For how long Liverpool have been a nightmare for Manchester City, you can’t help but feel pleased as a Gunner; the Citizens can now look at Arsenal and recognize them as a threat. What a job Mikel Arteta has done at the Emirates!
