Arsenal’s Douglas Luiz summer transfer hope emerge
This summer might see Douglas Luiz make a move to Arsenal, with Football London providing insights into the potential transfer.
The Gunners have shown a strong interest in the Aston Villa player for quite some time. Three Arsenal bids for his services were turned down in 2022, and the player then agreed to a new deal at Villa Park. Last summer, there were reports of the Gunners’ interest again, but unfortunately, nothing materialized.
This season, the transfer rumors linking the Brazilian with a move to the Emirates resurfaced, and it’s unlikely they’ll go away. After Granit Xhaka’s departure, many feel Arsenal still need another midfielder to compliment Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard with Thomas Partey struggling to stay fit.
A number of top midfielders have been identified as perfect fits for Arsenal, with Luiz standing out among them. The Brazilian midfielder has been experiencing a remarkable resurgence, showcasing how complete a midfielder he is. He has performed exceptionally well both defensively and in the final third, netting 10 goals and providing eight assists in 39 games.
Arsenal’s Luiz transfer boost
The Gunners would have faced a significant obstacle in their pursuit of Luiz due to his £100 million asking price. But as per Football London, they might find a way to circumvent paying such a hefty sum.
According to the publication, Villa manager Unai Emery may be considering reuniting with Kieran Tierney. He is a fan of the Arsenal loanee at Real Sociedad, whom he signed just before leaving the Emirates.
To re-sign the ex-Celtic man, Emery will need to pay £25 million. But as Villa contemplates striking that deal, Arsenal could include Tierney in their offer for Luiz.
That said, it would be beneficial for Arsenal if Villa don’t qualify for the Champions League, even if it means Spurs do. Without Champions League football, the 25-year-old South American could potentially force a move away from Villa Park.
While it’s important for Arteta to bolster his attack in the summer, investing in a top midfielder is crucial too; it could make his side competitive next season and seasons to come.

Arsenal need a player that can replicate Partey and Jorginho as a solid defensive ball winning midfielder to stay put at the halfway line and mop up, this will enable Rice to venture forward more and carry the ball into dangerous areas. I am not sure that Douglas has the discipline to stay as an anchor man to Rice in midfield. I think Fulhams Palhinha would do a better job.
