Arsenal in battle to sign £43m Nico Williams this summer
According to Football London, Chelsea may rival Arsenal in their move to recruit Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.
Arsenal’s attack may be at its best at the moment, with 31 goals in seven games. Nonetheless, there is speculation that preparations to strengthen their attack are already in the works, as Edu revealed.
Aside from signing a clinical striker, which is widely expected, transfer rumours suggest the Gunners are also in the market for a top winger. Mikel Arteta is rumoured to be interested in signing another winger to provide an extra option for his wide areas. Bukayo Saka could for sure benefit from a reliable deputy.
One of the many wingers Arsenal are eyeing is 22-year-old Nico Williams. The Spaniard has been on the rise. So far this season, he has 6 goals and 10 assists, which is an improvement over last season (he scored 9 and assisted 6 other goals).
Arsenal scouts should have been thrilled with the 11-cap Spain international’s development, but it appears they’re not alone; Chelsea are also interested.
Nico Williams’ transfer battle
For Williams’ signature, Football London says it may ultimately come down to a transfer battle between Arsenal and Chelsea. They insinuate that whoever is quick to activate the forward’s £43 million release clause will most likely win this race.
Gooners may be concerned about Chelsea entering that transfer race, considering the Blues’ willingness to break the bank for the deals they desire. However, given how excited they are by the move, Arsenal may win the transfer race. Football London even suggests that the Gunners may forgo a move for a striker in favour of Nico Williams, who can play everywhere in attack.
Aside from Nico Williams, Arsenal have been linked with a summer move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto.
Neto or Williams, Arsenal fans will have to wait and see which winger will be recruited to improve the team’s attack next season. They can also wait to see whether that swoop will impede their pursuit of a lethal striker.
