Arsenal told to spend £68m to sign Bologna star Zirkzee

By on March 6, 2024

Arsenal have been made aware that they will have to spend a fee of around £68m to sign Joshua Zirkzee this summer, as per the Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

It is an open secret that the Gunners want to reinforce their frontline by signing a new prolific striker ahead of next season. Numerous attackers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen being mentioned as the primary targets.

However, either of them are reportedly set to cost big so Arsenal are seemingly lining up cheaper alternative options in-case they miss out on signing Toney or Osimhen with Zirkzee emerging as a key target.

Arsenal have seemingly expressed their interest in acquiring the Bologna star’s service after being impressed by his recent displays, scoring 10 goals and registering three assists in 26 Serie A appearances.

However, while citing and translating the print version of Gazzetta dello Sport, Sport Witness has reported that Bologna don’t want to let their star man leave for cheap if they are forced to cash-in and want a similar fee as Man Utd paid Atalanta to sign Rasmus Hojlund – which is around £68m.

Zirkzee to Arsenal

The report further claims that Zirkzee joined Bologna from Bayern Munich and the Bavarian club have a buyback clause worth around £34m. But, Bologna can ask more than that figure to sell their star man to other club so, it looks likely that Arsenal will have to spend a huge fee to sign Zirkzee this summer.

Zirkzee, standing at 6ft 4in tall, is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has the efficiency of finishing off his chances and is also excellent in linking up the play.

The Dutchman is a talented player and has already showcased glimpses of his qualities in Serie A in recent times. So, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, it is highly unlikely that Arsenal will sign the forward by spending the reported £68m fee. So, if Bologna don’t lower their valuation then I think Arsenal would be better off going all-out to sign their primary targets, Toney or Osimhen.
