Arsenal interested in signing Fiorentina star Michael Kayode

By on March 1, 2024

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Fiorentina star Michael Kayode this summer, as per the Italian outlet Fiorentina.it.

The Gunners have struggled with injury problems at their right-back position this campaign. After joining the club during the summer of 2021, Takehiro Tomiyasu enjoyed a promising debut campaign at the Emirates Stadium.

However, he has found it difficult to stay fit in recent times. Additionally, new summer signing Jurrien Timber – who is a centre-back by traits but can also play in the right-back position – has been ruled out for almost the entirety of this campaign having sustained a serious knee injury in his Premier League debut.

So, following Tomiyasu and Timber’s injury problems, Mikel Arteta has been left with Ben White as the only option to choose from. Therefore, it seems following their recent injury problems, Arsenal have started to contemplate signing a new right-back to reinforce their backline ahead of next season with Kayode now emerging as a serious option.

The 19-year-old has burst onto the scene after displaying promising performances for Fiorentina this term, helping his side mount a European spot finish in Serie A.

Kayode to Arsenal

According to the report by Fiorentina.it, having been impressed by the youngster’s recent eye-catching performances, Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him.

However, the report claims that acquiring Kayode’s signature won’t be easy for the Gunners as Manchester City, AC Milan and Inter Milan are also plotting a summer swoop for him.

Kayode – valued at around £10m by Transfermarkt – still has more than four years left in his current contract. So, Fiorentina are in no rush to cash-in this summer and therefore, Arsenal will have to submit a lucrative proposal to persuade the Italian side to let the defender leave the club.

The 19-year-old is quick, strong, can play out from the back and is also efficient in defensive contributions. He is a talented player and possesses high potential. So, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to acquire his service ahead of next season.
