Janusz Michallik, a former US international and ESPN pundit, has urged Arsenal to focus on signing Dusan Vlahovic above other striker options. Michallik believes the Juventus striker would be an excellent addition to Arsenal, ahead of Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney.

Arsenal appear to have regained their scoring touch, with 25 goals in just six Premier League games, indicating a return to form following a poor end to 2023.

However, the match statistics from their Champions League match against FC Porto showed that their attack still needs to be improved, as Arsenal lost 1-0 and, surprisingly, did not register a shot on goal.

Many still feel Arsenal need a clinical striker, as failure to sign a regular goal-scorer in the summer could hamper their progression into a European superpower over the coming years.

Thankfully, widespread reports suggest that Mikel Arteta is desperate to sign a frontman in the summer. According to The Daily Mail, Arsenal will look to add a striker to their squad and have identified Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen, Joshua Zirkzee and Viktor Gyokeres as their main targets.

Vlahovic the best suited for Arsenal

The Gunners are looking at different striker options ahead of the summer window, but Janusz Michallik believes he has the perfect solution and it’s not one of the names being spouted in the media.

The ESPN pundit acknowledges Arsenal’s need for a great striker, naming Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney as possible options. However, he believes that Dusan Vlahovic is a better fit for the Arsenal team.

Citing Toney’s age of 27 and Osimhen’s high price tag of £112 million as concerns, the former US international feels Vlahovic might be the answer to Arsenal’s striking issues.

Michallik said:

“Here’s a team; how many goals have they scored? 25-26 in six games in the Premier League. But they didn’t score in Porto. Maybe it was a one-off. But maybe that one player is missing when Saka and Martinelli are off,” Michalik said.

“That central forward, given the amount of goals they score, you could say is not needed. But, I don’t know, Dusan Vlahovic, to me, fits in that team before maybe Ivan Toney and Osimhen. Some of it is money, and some of it is age in those. But I like what I see there. Left-footed player that would fit nicely there.”

The links to Vlahovic are nothing new; Arsenal previously attempted to recruit him while he was at Fiorentina, but he decided to join Juventus instead. After that, there have been periodic rumors linking the Serbian with a move to the Emirates.

Despite initially struggling to find consistency at Juventus, the Serbian international has actually excelled this season. With 15 goals and three assists in 25 games, he is rising in value; according to Transfermarkt, he’s currently valued at £51 million.

Given his resurgence, Juventus may be reluctant to let him go and may demand a fee even higher than his market value. But for whatever he’ll be worth, he would be another excellent option for Arsenal.

Saka and Martinelli would benefit from playing with him and Vlahovic would certainly be a terrific signing if Arsenal were able to pull it off.
