Arsenal ‘very interested’ in signing Joshua Zirkzee

By on February 17, 2024

Arsenal are reportedly ‘very interested’ in signing Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercato.

It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are set to prioritise strengthening their frontline by signing a new prolific striker this summer. A few names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen being mentioned as the primary options.

However, it has been suggested that Osimhen is high on PSG’s wish-list to replace Kylian Mbappe if he eventually moves away during the off-season. In addition, Toney is an option for Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

So, it appears the North London club are looking to line up alternative options in-case they miss out on signing their primary targets with Zirkzee now emerging as a serious option.

According to the report by Calciomercato, Arsenal are ‘very interested’ in signing the Dutchman and they are currently ‘first and foremost’ in this race. The report further claims that Bologna value the striker for around £38m so Arsenal would need to spend a sizeable amount of money to purchase him.

However, Calciomercato states that AC Milan and Napoli are also keen on acquiring his service. In addition, it has been suggested that Manchester United are also interested in signing the former Bayern Munich star to reinforce their attacking department. So Mikel Arteta’s side are set to face fierce competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.

Zirkzee has burst onto the scene after displaying promising performances with Bologna this term, helping his side mount a top-four charge. The forward, standing at 6ft 4in tall, is technically sound, is efficient in linking-up the play, has the efficiency of finishing off his chances and also can create opportunities for fellow attackers.

The Bologna star is a highly talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal. However, the 22-year-old doesn’t have much experience playing at the highest level yet so there is a question mark whether he would be able to help the Gunners achieve their lofty ambitions should he moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
